August Updates

Posted on August 18, 2017

This is just a reminder that there will be no regular classes this Saturday, Aug. 19, due to belt promotion testing.

Students who are scheduled to test that day should arrive no later than 9:15am to warm up before the test begins at 9:30, and be sure to wear full uniforms, including tops. The front desk will be staffed if you still need to take care of your test fee or turn in a permission slip that morning. If you’re not testing, we love to have you come and watch to support those on the mat.

Total Fitness class on Saturday will run as normal at 8:00pm.

Brown and Black Belts are welcome to attend a Super Sunday class on Sunday evening, Aug. 27, from 5-6:30pm. This class is open to both juniors and adults who want to get an additional Black Belt training class in.

Have a great weekend, and good luck to our testing students!

See you then!

Notes for Upcoming Weeks

Posted on June 22, 2017

Hope your summer is off to a great start. Here are a few things going on at the studio:

  • Super Sunday – this Sunday, June 25th, from 5-6:30 p.m., we’ll have Black Belt training for Second Degree Candidates and adult First Degree Candidates. Please email me if you plan to attend.
  • 4th of July Parade – the sign up sheet to represent MPK in the July 4th parade is now at the front desk. All students of any rank are welcome to participate, so sign up soon – we’ll begin practicing our short routine next week.
  • If you’ve had past weapons training and are interested in being part of one of the weapons groups, we’re looking for students for each weapon (Bo, Nunchucks, Kama, and Bokken). These will be small groups, and students need to have Mr. Armstrong’s permission first, so please see him as soon as possible if you think you might be interested.
  • New Adult Class Offered – beginning July 12, we’ll be offering an adults-only class (18 and up) from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Adults of all ranks are welcome to attend. The curriculum will vary somewhat, but the general focus will be on practical application for martial arts and self defense. If this gets good traction, we’ll plan to keep it as part of our regular schedule.
  • New Rates and Agreement – we still have some families who have not yet filled out the new agreement form. If you haven’t done this, please make sure to do so before the end of the month.
  • Lost and Found – we still have two pairs of kids’ glasses at the front desk that have been here for several weeks. One pair is yellow and black, and the other is green and black.

Congratulations to all students and have a great night of testing!

News & Notes for June

Posted on June 2, 2017

Tuition and Agreements – Just a reminder that the tuition rate increase went into effect on June 1. Along with the rate change, we need to update every member’s agreement, so if you haven’t stopped in to take care of this, please see us at the front desk. We’ve had a few families who dropped off checks at the old rates – you can stop in next time you’re here, or we’ll get in touch to reconcile.

  • If you normally pay on the first of the month, the agreement should be updated with your payment in the next few days.
  • If you normally pay on the 15th, you have a couple of weeks yet.
  • If you are paid in full, you will update your agreement at the expiration date.

Are you missing these? We had a couple of items left here last week that someone is probably looking for. If either of these are yours, you can pick them up at the front desk.

  • A pair of yellow and black child-sized glasses
  • A red accented Razor scooter with a blue spiked helmet

Kick-a-Thon – Our fundraiser Kick-a-Thon is coming up on Monday, June 5 — 4pm for A+ After School students and 5:30pm for evening students. There is still time to raise money if you haven’t met your goal yet, and boards are available at the front desk if you haven’t gotten yours. Be sure to invite the people who contributed down to watch you break your board!

Belt Promotion Testing – on Wednesday, June 14, there will be no regular classes while we hold belt testing for students at all levels who have met their class and stripe requirements. Testing for Little Kickers will begin at 5pm and Junior and Adults all levels will begin at 5:30pm. Blue, Red, and Brown Belts – remember to bring your sparring gear.

Super Sunday – Black Belt training will be held June 18 from 5-6:30 pm for Second Degree candidates and adult First Degree candidates

Morning Classes – Tuesday and Thursday morning classes begin on June 20 and will run from 9-9:45am. All ages and ranks are welcome – this is a great opportunity to get some extra training time in.

A+ After School Registration – If you’re planning to enroll your child for the 2017-18 school year, our early registration period and discounted rates run through the end of June. If you’d like additional information, you can see Melinda Huber or the front desk staff.

T-shirt Time – Just in time for the warmer weather, you can begin wearing karate T-shirts to class now through September 1. We have a variety of sizes and colors available if you need to buy one.

Have a great day!

A few end of the school year notes for A+ After School:

1. Monday, June 5 – Kick-A-Thon for cancer cause to help the Feldman family.

  • 4pm After School program
  • Keep collecting donations over the weekend
  • Bring in your donations and board on Monday to kick
  • If you haven’t gotten a board, pick one up at the front desk

2. Wednesday, June 7 – Last Day of School

  • School is out at 11am – no lunch served
  • If weather is nice, no rain – we’ll walk to Fireman’s park to play on playground, football, frisbee, sidewalk chalk, eat pizza, drink water, walk back to MPK and arrive back at 3pm.
  • Pick up times are the same unless you want to pick up sooner.
  • I have a sign up sheet on counter to check off if your child will be coming to MPK or no. Feel free to email me too. I need to know either way for a head count for buses.

3. Registration next year – pick up your papers at the front counter, fill them out, turn them in with one month payment and snack if buying from MPK. Early rates until June 30, after July 1 the 2017-18 rates go up.
