A Helping Hand for an MPK Family

Posted on August 26, 2016

From the Desk of Mr. Armstrong:

On Friday, September 2, five-year-old Maddie Feldman will have surgery to remove a tumor from her brain. Midwest Professional Karate is organizing meals for the family. Maddie and her sister Aubrey are both students at MPK. You can sign up below through SignUp Genius to help support the family by providing meals.

You may drop off the meals at MPK Monday-Thursday 2:30-7pm; Friday 2:30-5:30pm, or Saturday 8:30-11am. MPK will transport the meals to the family.

Items such as food or gas gift cards are welcome and MPK will gladly deliver those as well. Thank you.

Pickup Location for A+ Middle School Students

Posted on August 26, 2016

Quick note for our A+ After School students at the Middle School. The MPK van will pick up after school students on the corner of Southbound/Yorktown (where the Middle School announcements sign is located).

If your child will not be on the MPK van on certain day when they are scheduled to, please call/email me to let us know so the driver isn’t waiting for them.

Thank you!

August Studio Events

Posted on August 11, 2016

Hi MPK Families, I hope your summer is going well!

We have several upcoming events that you might be interested in, so here is a quick update what’s going on at the studio in August.

Fri. Aug 19th — Ninja Night for kids age 4 and older. We’ll be playing games, having pizza, and watching a movie from 6-9 pm, and guests are welcome. Cost is $20 for the first child and $15 for guests or siblings. Our sign up sheet is filling fast, so if you’re interested, please sign up soon.

Sat. Aug 20th — Testing for Gold Stripe through Brown Stripe belts beginning at 9:30 am for all ages and ranks (no regular classes that day). If you have your classes in but don’t have all your stripes, be sure to sign up for a stripe testing time this week.

Sun. Aug 21st — Women’s Self Defense Seminar from 4-6 pm. This is a great opportunity for women age 14 and up, especially for those young women heading to high school or college. It’s also a great mother-daughter experience. Come and learn some self defense skills and build your confidence. There is no charge for the seminar, but we will be accepting donations to benefit DANN, the Deforest Area Needs Network. No experience necessary — bring your family and friends. Sign up is at the front desk if you’re interested.

A+ After School Registration — it’s hard to believe it’s almost back to school time. We have a lot of returning families and quite a few new faces in our After School Program this year, but we still have some room left. If you’re interested in enrolling for the 2016-17 school year, stop in and fill out a registration packet soon before all the spots are gone.

See you in class!

We’ll be holding a Ninja Night on Friday, August 19th, from 6-9 pm. Put it on your calendar! Cost is the same — $20 for the first child, $15 for siblings or guests. The signup sheet is at the front desk, and more details will follow as we get closer. Feel free to invite friends, and sign up early — we filled up the week before our last Ninja Night.

Fourth of July Parade Information

Posted on June 30, 2016

We have updated information regarding MPK’s participation in the Fourth of July Parade.

First, at the 5:30 class on Thursday, June 30, we’ll have a parade practice out on the grass in front of the studio instead of regular class for all ages and ranks. Everyone is welcome to participate, but we especially encourage anyone planning to march in the parade to be here for that practice session.

Please dress for this practice like you’d dress for the parade — karate T-shirt and pants, shoes that don’t come off, and a hat/sunglasses, as needed.

Below are links to the Parade Route and Line-up, and also a letter regarding the Parade from the DeForest Windsor Area Chamber of Commerce.

We would like you to arrive at the High School Parking lot by 9:30am. The parade begins at 10:30. Please drop off at St. Olaf’s and walk over to the MPK spot which is number 52-53 this year. We will have the MPK Van in the parade so that will be easy to spot. Here is a list of the basics for the 4th:

1. Arrive by 9:30am
2. Wear MPK t-shirt, Karate pants, belt, tennis shoes
3. Bring ater bottle, hat, sun screen.
4. Have a plan for the end of the parade for meeting with family. We will stop at Christ Lutheran Church at the end of the parade. This is a great spot for meeting family members.

We will need 4-5 wagons to help with carrying water bottles and parade supplies. We will also need some parents to help hand out candy and some MPK coupons.

We will be practicing the parade routine in class for the rest of the week. If you want to be in the parade and haven’t been in class, you’ll do fine! The routine is short and sweet and you can learn it in about 5 minutes.

Weather — It looks it’s going to be a nice day. However, if it starts looking like it’s going to get really hot we ask that our Little Kickers skip the parade.

We will be making goody bags for all our kids in the parade this year so you won’t miss out!
