Special Events
Ninja Night
About once a month on a Friday or Saturday, MPK hosts a Ninja Night (Parents' Night Out) for our karate kids. Ninja Nights alternate for kids in kindergarten through age 7 and kids ages 8-12 and include fun karate games, a pizza party, and an age-appropriate movie (blankets and pillows welcome!). There's even an option for kids to bring a non-karate buddy for a discounted price.
Weapons Classes
We offer weapons training on a rotating basis that includes a 1-hour introductory seminar and 8-weeks of classes. Weapons rotations are generally open to students who are least 8-years old and have achieved a minimum rank of Gold Belt (Instructor discretion may be used depending on the weapon and skills and focus needed).
Weapons we currently train with include Bo, Nunchaku, Escrima Sticks, Kamas, and Bokken. We focus on safe weapon handling techniques and will work on various strikes, blocks, spins, and a few fun tricks before learning a form or combination specific to that weapon. Students attending all eight classes and learning the techniques will earn a certificate of achievement for the weapon.
Birthday Parties
An MPK birthday party is fun for all ages. We offer a 90-minute party for up to 20 kids that includes a karate class, structured karate games, and use of our classroom for refreshments and socializing. Contact us for more details. Dates are available based on instructor availability, so be sure to book early!
Self Defense Seminars
Periodically, MPK hosts community self-defense seminars. These are usually held for 2-4 hours on a Saturday or Sunday and focus on safe behaviors to avoid becoming a victim along with basic skills for defending yourself if you do get into an uncomfortable situation. Seminars are great for students entering high school or college or adults who want to gain confidence. There is no regular schedule for these seminars, but if you’d like to be notified when one is scheduled, contact us to get on the waiting list.
Kick-a-Thon Charity Events
At MPK, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. One way we do that is to host kick-a-thons to raise money for a charitable cause. Our students, from the youngest Little Kicker to the mature adults, can participate by buying a board to break and raising money for the cause we’re supporting. The kick-a-thon event is the wrap up, where we invite families and donors, unveil the total amount raised, and students get to break their board. This is usually a packed-house event and lots of fun for the students. And most importantly, we donate money to important organizations. In the past several years, our kick-a-thons have raised between $14,000 and $16,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! These events are well-publicize in the studio, on our website, and our social media, so keep an eye out for upcoming events.
