A+ After School Notes

Posted on January 15, 2016

Quick reminder that Monday, January 18, there is NO SCHOOL. And, Friday, January 22, is a two-hour early release day. Short week!

  • If your child will not be attending MPK on any given day, please let us know.
  • If you need to pick up your child at a certain time/earlier then normal, please let us know in advance.
  • Please wash uniform/t-shirt each weekend and send it with your child to School following week. If you need to purchase more uniforms, t-shirts, see front desk.
  • There is still a lot of Lost and Found items – snow pants, sweatshirts, hats, pink rubber rain boots, etc. Please take a look when picking up your child to see if it belongs to you/child. We’ve asked the students and we get the same response – not mine! It’s spread out kitty corner behind the counter.
  • 4th grade – Middle School students: If your child is in 4th grade this year, going into 5th grade next year and for all Middle School students who plan to attend MPK After School Program next year, please email me. Mr. Armstrong is thinking ahead to have a plan for next year transportation and we are trying to get an idea who might return next year. Please think about it/talk about it and I’ll ask you again in couple of months.

We’ll be having two more students starting with us soon. One next week and another one in February. That puts our A+ student head count at 68!! That is awesome! This is our 5th year for After School Program and I’m proud to be a part of MPK family. I love my job, working with the staff, students, and families. That shows what kind of a Martial Arts Program we have and the families who are truly dedicated to our program. It’s so great to see the students grow when they started out as a white belt to where they are at now. What a great accomplishment as individuals and as a whole team. They make new friends from all four Schools. Never, ever give up, push them till the end and they’ll earn their black belt. 🙂

Winter Lost & Found

Posted on January 13, 2016

Hey everyone, we have a lot of winter gear that’s been left here at the studio, and with the cold weather, we want to make sure kids get it back. We have several pairs of snow pants and boots, a winter coat and several lighter jackets and fleece, along with some hats, gloves, and sweatshirts. Some of it has been here for quite a while.

Can you please take a look next time you’re here and see if you recognize anything? It’s all next to the front desk, just ask and we’ll show you what we have.

Stay warm!

News & Upcoming Events

Some notes about things going on in December…

Ninja Afternoon
Our last Ninja Night of 2015 will be a Ninja Afternoon on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 1 – 4pm. This is a great opportunity to drop the kids off while you finish your last minute shopping. Since it’s the middle of the afternoon, we won’t be having pizza, but we’ll be doing cookie decorating and crafts, karate games, and a movie. All school age kids are welcome, and the price is the same as previous events — $20 for the first child and $15 for buddies. We still have plenty of room, but it will start to fill up quickly this week.

Our Ninja Events from October, November, and December will benefit the Blessings in a Backpack program, and we’ll be making that donation the week after the Dec 19 event. Thanks to all of you who have participated!

Test Week
Our next colored belt test event will be the week of December 14-18 with graduation for both A+ After School and Evening students on Friday night, Dec 18 at 6pm. Students eligible to test (have all classes and curriculum stripes) will get their permission slips this week, and those need to be returned on or before the first day of testing. Test fee information is at the top of the permission slip. We’ll send a separate email shortly with the schedule for testing and classes for that week.

Clothing Orders
Our orders were placed for the MPK logo gear, and we’ll have them in plenty of time for gift giving. We don’t know who placed orders that will be gifts, so our plan is to hand out the orders to parents only. If you placed an order for another adult and don’t want them to know, please let us know so we don’t give it to that person.

Super Sunday
We’ll have one last Super Sunday for 2015 for Black Belt candidates on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 9:30 – 11am. This is a great opportunity to get some extra training in if you’re on track or make up some Super classes if you’re behind. First Degree Candidates testing in January are encouraged to attend as many Super Saturdays and Super Sundays as possible before testing. Super Saturdays for December are on the 5th and 12th.
