Hi MPK Families… I hope this finds you well and settling into the new school year. Here is some information to keep in mind about what’s going on here at MPK.

█ NINJA NIGHT — We’ll be holding our first Ninja Night/Parent’s Date Night of the new school year on Friday, October 16, from 6-9 pm. This is an opportunity for kids to come for fun and food while you take some time for yourselves. We’ll be playing games, watching a movie, and having pizza.

Kids in kindergarten and higher are welcome, and we encourage everyone to bring a buddy. The cost is $20 for the first child and $15 for buddies. The sign up sheet is at the front desk, or you can reply to this email with the names and ages of children attending, and I’ll sign you up. Space will be limited, so sign up soon. We’ll continue taking reservations until Thursday, October 15 or we fill the roster, whichever comes first.

█ UPCOMING TESTING — Our next test week for eligible colored belts is October 19-22. As a reminder, to be eligible students must have a minimum of 40 classes (80 for red belts) and have earned all five curriculum stripes. There’s still some time to get your last stripes — you can sign up for a Saturday morning checkoff on the board near the front door.

A+ students who are eligible to test will test in class during that week and are encouraged to attend the Friday night graduation for the entire group. The schedule for evening tests and classes is:

• Monday 10/19 — no regular classes except for Master’s Class at 7:00. Testing for all belt ranks will take place during regular class times.
• Tuesday 10/20 — normal sparring classes for all levels. There will be no Hyper class that night. Reminder to Blue Belts and up who are testing – sparring is required that night.
• Wednesday, 10/21 — No regular classes except for Master’s class at 7:00. All testing students should be here, warmed up and ready to begin testing at 5:30, and this will run until each group is through their curriculum.
• Thursday, 10/22 — normal classes for all plus any make up testing during regular class times.
• Friday, 10/23 — Graduation and belt presentation for all evening and A+ students who tested begins at 6:00 and should take about an hour.

█ HYPER CLASSES — Our current Hyper rotation is wrapping up, and we’ll be starting our next rotation on Saturday, October 24. This will be another Nunchuck session, and it’s open to experienced students and beginners. Experienced students will have the opportunity to work with double chucks if they choose to.

Hyper is open to students with a Gold Belt or above who are at least 8 years old. If you need to order Nunchucks, the order form will be at the front desk along with the Hyper class sign up. Cost for the Hyper classes is $65 for a 4-month rotation. Prices for Nunchucks will vary based on whether you choose foam or graphite — please see the front desk for more information.

█ UNIFORMS — As a reminder to all students, the tradition for uniforms at MPK is that all students under Black Belt wear uniform tops and bottoms that match. Colors can be mixed beginning at First Degree Black Belt.

Additionally, the new team uniforms have been ordered! We expect to be able to hand them out late this month.

█ MPK GEAR — We’ll be ordering some new MPK logo gear (shirt, jacket, hat…) again this year in time for Christmas. We’ll be getting some samples and order forms very soon, so watch the front desk for more information!

As September winds down we have a few After School notes for you to keep in mind for October. If you would like to pick up early or your student will not be attending, please let Melinda know (melinda@karatedeforest.com). Also, for our Junior students — if you would like your child to take Little Kicker class, please let me know so we make sure they take the first class (3:35-4:10pm). You can pick up 4:15-4:30pm. In the meantime, mark your calendars for these dates:

• Monday, Oct. 5 — All Schools: Two-hour Early Release day
  *Please see sign up sheet on the counter when picking up your child.
• Friday, Oct. 16 — Middle School: 5/6 grade Fall Festival – 3:30-5:30pm
  * If your child will be attending this, please let Melinda know that your child will NOT be attending MPK after school.
• Thursday, Oct. 29 — All Schools: Two-hour Early Release day, and NHS Community Trick or Treat Night, 5-7pm at the High School.
• Friday, Oct. 30 — No School

Don’t forget that payment is due next week for those of you that owe for October. You can pay with check or c.c.

Join us Saturday, August 1, to celebrate 20 years of MPK!

Stop in between 8am and 2pm for our 20th Anniversary Celebration. Bring the whole family, we’ll have martial arts demos every 30 minutes. We’ll have free brats and hot dogs, too!

Plus, you can enter to win door prizes, including one year of martial arts training — two will be awarded, one for a new student and one for an existing student!

We’ll also offer free intro classes:

• 8 am — Total Fitness Training
• 10:30 am — Free Self-Defense Class
• 12:30 am — Free Self-Defense Class

There’s a new opportunity for a great workout at MPK… it’s a hip-hop dance workout taught by one of our awesome karate mom’s! This 6-week fitness class is $55. Signup at MPK or contact Theresa Luttrell (608-572-0304, Momluttrell417@gmail.com).

Just a quick note regarding the test schedule for this week at MPK. Each day will be dedicated to testing. Please plan on attending each night.

For our A+ After School kids this means we will be testing during your classes this week as well. For our evening families the same is true.

If you are a Blue Belt or higher you must attend Tuesdays class as we will be sparring and that is part of your requirement for promotion.

If you are a Blue Belt or higher in our evening program please be sure to make the Wednesday evening class beginning at 5:30 as we will be focusing a your advanced testing material.

All students are welcomed to attend their normal classes this week.

Friday evening at 6:00pm will be our graduation program. Students will be demonstrating portions of their test for parents and friends. At the end of the graduation program we will present belts. Graduations should run about 60 minutes. Please have students dress in FULL uniforms all week and especially graduation night.

Please remember both our A+ After School students and evening students will participate together for graduation.
