Women’s Self-Defense Seminar

Posted on July 24, 2018

We will be conducting a women’s self defense seminar this Sunday, July 29, beginning at 6:30 pm.

This is a great opportunity for women and girls age 14 and up to learn some practical skills for defending themselves along with behaviors and strategies to help avoid becoming a target. This is great for anyone heading to high school or college, as well as adults who just want to gain practical skills and confidence.

There is no fee for the seminar, but instead we will be accepting donations to support Blessings in a Backpack. If you or any friends or family would like to attend, please respond by Friday so we can get an accurate headcount.

Thanks — we hope to see you there!

Memorial Day Weekend Notes

Posted on May 24, 2018

For Memorial Day weekend we have some adjustments to the normal schedule:

  • Saturday, 5/26 — No weapons class or regular karate class. Instead, we’ll have an Open Gym from 9-10:30 am. For those of you who haven’t been to an Open Gym session, it’s a time for students age 8 and older to come and work independently on their curriculum. There will be Black Belts available to help students with skills but no structured lesson. For students who plan to test on June 16, this is a great time to fine tune the skills on your card. Total Fitness Training will be at the normal 8:00 time.
  • Sunday, 5/27 — Closed.
  • Monday, 5/28 — Closed.
  • Tuesday, 5/29 — We will back to our regular schedule on Tuesday, May 29.

Thanks everyone!

One-time Schedule Change…

Posted on May 15, 2018

Due to our Nunchuku seminar this Saturday, May 19, that runs from 9-10am, our regular karate class will start 15 minutes later and will run from 10-10:45am for this Saturday only.

Lost Item…

Posted on May 14, 2018

We need your help. There is a lost necklace that we need your help to locate. The necklace belongs to Seamus O’Connell and was given to him as a gift and as a family tradition — it’s got a lot of personal meaning to Seamus and his family, so we’re asking if you could please take a look and check with other students in your family to see if you might have it (see photo).

It was here in the studio hanging from one of the gear racks next to the desk about 3 weeks ago, but it was gone the next day when we went to get it. It’s possible that another student picked it up by accident, or it even could have been accidentally knocked into a backpack or sparring bag.

We’d really appreciate it if you could take a look and return it to the front desk or directly to Seamus if you find it. Thanks very much for your help!

Notes for Monday 4/16

Posted on April 12, 2018

Monday, April 16, is a no-school day in Deforest, and we’re running a karate camp during the day. Monday night, we’ll have normal Little Kicker classes at 5:00, but an open gym from 5:30 – 7:00 rather than regular classes.

Open gym is time for students age 8 and up to come in and work individually or with a partner on their card curriculum. As always, we’ll have Black Belts here to help, but there won’t be a structured class.

A+ After School students are also welcome to come in that night if you’re not in the karate camp.

See you in class!

Open Gym Saturday

Posted on March 27, 2018

We will be having an open gym this Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30am instead of regular karate class. For those of you who haven’t been here for open gym before, it’s a time to come in and work on your card curriculum individually or with a partner. There will be no structured class, but there will be Black Belts available to help with skills. Total Fitness Training will be at 8am as normal.

If you’re considering belt testing in April, this is a great opportunity to fine tune your skills to prepare for earning stripes.

For Little Kickers, parents are welcome to kick off their shoes and hold targets or guide your students through their card material.
