Training & Testing Notes

Posted on January 16, 2017

Here are a few things coming up at the studio:

  • Sunday, January 22 – Super Sunday Black Belt Training from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Black and Brown belts are welcome, as are adult Red Belts. Please let me know if you’re planning to attend.
  • Saturday, February 11 – Black Belt Testing – We will have our normal all-ranks class at 9:45, but testing will start at 11:00, so there will be no Super Saturday that day. Come down and cheer on Violet and Owen as they demonstrate their Black Belt skills and attitudes!
  • Saturday, February 18 – Colored Belt Testing for all ranks Gold through Brown Stripe beginning at 9:30. There will be no regular classes other than Total Fitness Training that day, so feel free to come down and cheer on the students who are testing.

See you in class!

Some After School Notes for January

Posted on January 3, 2017

Happy New Year! Hope you and your families had a wonderful winter break and new year! We have four new students starting with us on Tuesdays. Welcome aboard!

  • Please make sure your child’s uniform and t-shirt have been washed and place in child’s backpack for Tuesday. Snacks, does your child need more snacks at MPK?
  • Tuesday is a sparring day, when we come back from break. Please check with your child to see if they have their mouthguard or cup at home – send to school with them for MPK.
  • If your child will NOT be attending MPK, please email me before 2:00pm or call the studio asap. So we have accurate head count for the busses everyday.
  • Payments are due this week, please try to get them in.
  • I’m still working on your tax receipts, so you can use them for your taxes in April. I will email the ones I have done, A through M. Once you get it, please look it over and make sure it’s correct, if something is wrong, let me know so I can correct it. You’re only allowed to collect tuition for the After School Program (not valid on snacks, registration fee)

Happening in January:
Monday, Jan. 16 — No School and no MPK After School Program (evening classes — yes, come and take class that’s for your belt rank)
Friday, Jan. 20 — Early Release Day – out at 1pm
Saturday, Jan. 28 – Father/Daughter Dance at High School North gym, 6-9pm

Thank you, MPK Families!

Hi Everyone — thanks very much to all of you who participated in our quilt, sock monkey, and scarf fundraiser. Because of you, we’ve raised more than $800 for the Feldman family!

Congratulations to Amy Hill, the winner of the MPK quilt, and thanks again to Becky Godat for all the hard work that went into making it.

Merry Christmas and we hope you enjoy a wonderful holiday season!

A Few Updates…

Posted on December 16, 2016

First of all, congratulations to all our hard-working students who passed their belt promotion tests last night — great effort by everyone!

Please take a minute to check the lost and found to see if anything is yours. We’ve had a lot of things left over the last few months that haven’t been claimed, including a large number of sweatshirts, jackets, gloves, hats, water bottles, and a few pairs of glasses and pieces of jewelry (see the front desk for the last two). Everything else is set out on a table next to the front desk.

Just a reminder for Brown and Black Belts: we’ll have a Super Sunday this weekend — Sunday 12/18 from 5-6:30pm. If you haven’t already, please let me know if you plan to attend.

We still have MPK hats and a couple of logo hoodies available (Hoodies size M and L). Please email me (mpkstudio@karatedeforest.com) or see the front desk if you’re interested.

We had a last minute addition to our fundraising items. We have 9 cute handmade fleece scarves that were donated that are for sale for $8 each. There are several different colors/patterns, and Bob is modeling one below — see the front desk if you’re interested in one. Tickets for the quilt drawing are also still available if you want to get in on that. Drawing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Fundraising Gifts! Perfect…

Posted on December 9, 2016

Hi MPK Families! Just in time for the holidays we have a great opportunity for you to make a difference in our karate community. Most of you are aware of Little Kicker Maddie Feldman’s battle with a brain tumor. She’s doing well, but she and her family still have a long road ahead, and we’ve had some great items handmade and donated for a fundraiser by our fabulous Black Belt, Becky Godat.

We have 13 adorable handmade sock monkeys available for adoption for $15 each on a first-come-first-served basis. They’re keeping us company at the front desk until they find their forever homes, so stop in and take a look!

We also have a gorgeous, handmade, one-of-a-kind MPK quilt (65″ x 48″) in red, black and gray with the MPK logo available in a sweepstakes drawing.

You can get a quilt entry ticket at the front desk with a suggested donation of $5 per ticket, and we’ll draw the winner on Tuesday night, December 20.

Pictures of both items are attached and we’ll have quilt tickets and sock monkeys available beginning this Saturday morning and during regular class times.

Thank you all for the support you’ve shown Maddie and her family as they face this challenge — we’re privileged to have such great families in our program!

Once they are done ringing bells, they will come back over to MPK and take class regular class. If a child doesn’t want to participate, they’ll stay at MPK and take class.

Monthly Flex payment families: Please watch for an email from me letting you know what you owe for December. It’s a smaller amount, since there’s only three weeks.
