KICK-A-THON for LLS

In addition to the Self Defense Seminar for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, we are also hosting a Kick-A-Thon on Wednesday, March 8. The boards are available now at the front desk. Here are a few kick-a-thon notes:

  • If you have already purchased a board please pick it up from the front desk.
  • If you still need to purchase a board, you can buy yours for $2 at the front desk.
  • Once you have your board, you will write a bad habit you would like to break on the board and then begin collecting donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You should also have your donors sign your board!

We are challenging you to collect at least 10 donations of $10 to benefit the LLS. Do you accept the challenge? Great!

Belt Promotion, Weapons Rotation

Posted on January 13, 2023

We have two important updates regarding our next belt promotion test and our next weapons rotation, as well as with a few minor schedule changes that go along with each of them.

BELT PROMOTION EVENT:
Our next belt promotion test will be on Saturday, January 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for students who have met the class requirements and earned all their colored stripes. Students who have met requirements will receive a permission slip and a link for the test fee (for promotion to the next color belt only — tests for a black or white stripe belt have no fees). This will be a group event for both our evening and the A+ After School families. We have a potentially large group of students who could be ready, so if you’re not sure if your student is close, you can check with the front desk (evening families) or after school staff to see where they are for classes and stripes.

Test Ready =
40 + classes. All 5 colored stripes.
Permission slip returned and any test fee paid before the test date.

Because of the test, there will be no stripe testing or open gym on Saturday, Jan. 28. Total Fitness Classes are still on at 8:00 a.m.

WEAPONS ROTATION:
We’ll be wrapping up our current Nunchuck rotation next week, Jan. 17. We’re taking the following week off to prepare for our next seminar and rotation, which will be on the exciting art of the Bokken (sword). We’ll start with a one-hour introductory seminar, followed by an 8 week class rotation.

  • Open to students 7 years old and up and at least a Gold Belt
  • Introductory seminar on January 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. There are options for the seminar only for students who already own a bokken and for seminar plus either a wood or foam weapon. Foam weapons are recommended for students 10 and under or for older students who are new to weapons training. There will be no sparring for ages 11 and up on January 31; Sparring for ages 4-10 will be held at 5:00. Register using these links:
Bokken Seminar – Wood Bokken $58.00
    • Bokken Seminar – Foam Bokken – $58.00
    • Bokken Seminar Only – Bring Your Own Weapon – $35.00
  • Bokken Class – Tuesdays from 5:30-6:10 p.m. from February 7 – April 4.
    • Cost – $60.00 one time charge covers the whole rotation
    • Register here: Bokken Rotation Registration

We’ll have sample weapons available at the front desk next week if you want to check them out, and we’re always happy to answer your questions.
